Neurosomatic Therapy
Have you ever gotten a massage, felt super relaxed, and within hours your discomfort returned? That's an example of them addressing your symptom but not the source of your pain. The muscles they worked relaxed for a bit, giving you relief, but the pain returned because they didn’t address the cause of the tight muscles.
Neurosomatic Therapy is different! NST is an integrative form of manual therapy that takes your whole body into account to identify and address the underlying cause of the pain.
Modern life is not ideal for proper body function. The way we sit most of the day, use our phones and even walk often throws our body mechanics out of proper form. Without maintenance our posture shifts out of alignment, our muscles either start to tighten or stop working and the fascia tissue constricts. This forces other muscles to step in and compensate. This may happen slowly or through a sudden injury but ultimately can result in inflammation, joint pain and degeneration, and acute or chronic pain. For some, it can affect other areas of the body such as digestion, circulation, and hormones.
Other Modalities
While the primary modality through which I do my assessment is Neurosomatic Therapy, I often incorporate multiple other styles for treatment. This allows me to identify and apply the best massage and bodywork techniques for your specific needs. This ensures that you have the most customized treatment plan possible.
Sports massage
Sports massage is often used to address specific injuries that arise from intense physical activities. It takes into account the way specific actions impact soft tissues, muscles, tendons, and joints. It works to correct structural imbalances caused by overuse or improper use of a muscle.
Sports massage is extremely beneficial for athletes or highly active individuals looking to improve their range of motion, improve flexibility, relieve muscle aches, and recover post strenuous exercise.
Deep tissue massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a technique that applies sustained pressure with slow deep pressure strokes to reach the deeper muscles, structures, and connective tissues of your body. It can prompt faster healing by promoting blood flow to the area increasing the delivery of oxygen and nutrients.
Deep tissue massage has been shown to be most effective when combined with additional forms of manual therapies and regular stretching.
Trigger Point Therapy
When a muscle is overused, strained, or injured the muscle and the surrounding fibers (fascia) become inflamed, eventually turning into a knot (trigger points). These trigger points restrict blood flow to the area causing muscle tightness and acute pain in a specific area, especially when touched. In adults trigger points often develop over months or years of abusing our bodies through poor movement patterns or strain.
Trigger point therapy targets those specific painful knots, focusing on softening the tissue and returning blood flow to the area to relieve pain and increase the range of motion.
